May 6, 2013: Halifax
I was on port day duty today. This ship is different when it comes to port day on low kid counts. The EM claims that Club HAL is part of the IPM schedule on all S-class ships (not true), so one of us has to stay on the ship. So, instead of sign-ups, the one of us (me today) who’s on board has the YPC pager; we can hang out in the room or anywhere around the ship, and go up when one of the families pages us. We weren’t expecting anyone to come until at least 2, but I got paged at 11. The family of 6 wanted to leave the two youngest with me for the day. We played games for a while, managed to stretch lunch out over two hours (I wasn’t too happy about that craziness), then played more games with the other kids who arrived.
It was a loonnngg afternoon dealing with pretty much all the kids on board including wild three-year-olds and 12-year-olds. I at least managed to rest and read until dinner, then we started Pirate Night. That was pretty fun, I got to hide the clues as we were searching around the ship for them. Overall, I think it was a successful night! We went to the OB afterwards and gathered a group to play Skip-Bo again.
