July 18, 2013: Corfu, Greece
I was very grateful when Ryan told me yesterday that he’d made a mistake on our schedule. We didn’t arrive until 9 and he’d put me working port day at 8. Extra 30 minutes of sleep for me; of course, it was hour forward as well, blech. I had breakfast then went up for the day in the tween room. One of my kids came up right at 9, left at 10 immediately thereafter two of the tweens came, followed by a few more of the tweens. All was good until lunch, they played video games the whole morning. Two of the kids joined us during lunch, they’d already eaten even though it was only 12, so they had to sit and were bored while the rest of us ate. Needless to say, I didn’t get to eat a lot because I was looking after 8 of them. After lunch, most of them played some version of house for a while around the taxi and I played Uno with the others, then they begged to go to the Sports Deck, but the second we got outside, one had to go to the bathroom, another had forgotten sunglasses, and the rest wanted water, so we went back to the Lido for water before staying in Club HAL the rest of the afternoon. It was a long afternoon, add to that the fact that one of the parents didn’t come until 4:20. I was exhausted so went right to the room and attempted to take a nap until dinner. Hopefully no one else has to do after-hours the night before their port day on an hour-forward night, it’s not fun.
In the kids room, it was Under the Sea night. We made it fun instead of just tons of crafts. After they played sea charades (difficult when half the group doesn’t know English), and made fingerprint-scaled fish, we went up to the Sports Deck and did some fish-y relay races (crawl like a sea turtle, hop like a mermaid, crab walk, etc). Then we decorated fish with sequins and googly-eyes. I was glad that took a long time and we had just enough time only to play 4 Corners/Fishes. Parents came then to pick them up so April and I were pretty happy. Sea day tomorrow, it’s our last one for 12 days!
